Confused with ArcGIS Online Feature Layer (Hosted) and Feature Layer

Good morning everyone,

I am currently testing AGOL web editing options pointing to a feature class located in ArcSDE.

I am trying to create a in AGOL Feature Layer pointing to a local ArcGIS Server feature service:

http://[myserver]:6080/arcgis/rest/services/[folder]/[service_name]/FeatureServer/0

From ArcGIS Online I go to MyContent --> Create --> Feature Layer. To create a Feature Layer.

2 years ago I was able to create a Feature Layer and this feature layer was pointing to the service located in my server:

http://[myserver]:6080/arcgis/rest/services/[folder]/[service_name]/FeatureServer/0

Now when I try to create the same Feature Layer, but this feature layer is called a Feature Layer (Hosted).

http://services.arcgis.com/8Pc9XBTAsYuxx9Ny/arcgis/rest/services/[service_name]/FeatureServer

Was the option to create a Feature Layer pointing to a local ArcGIS Server Service disabled and replaced by Feature Layer (Hosted)?

Any advice will be welcome.

Esri's documentation says a hosted feature layer is a type of hosted web layer.

About hosted web layers—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS

I think the "hosted" term is just to be more specific that it's something external from ArcGIS Online. This is probably just a change in naming compared to what you saw two years ago.

Found it: instead of using the option Create a Feature Layer, I used the option Add Item from the Web, and it also creates a Feature Layer but this time pointing to a local service
