topic Drive time polygon extra vertices? in ArcGIS Network Analyst Questions

I rarely work with Network Analyst but have been working on a drive time/distance geoprocessing tool for a web application. I am really confused about the resultant polygons. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I don't understand why there seem to be superfluous vertices. I've (crudely) pointed arrows at what I'm considering as unneeded vertices...any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Service area is about which roads you can reach from a start facility up to the specified break value. The polygons are generated from the lines that were reached and NOT reached. Service Area polygon generation is like "contouring". Places that can be reached on the street network have a specific "height" value (that is, the travel time or distance away from the start facility). But what about the places that are not reached? So those places are added at a higher cost and resulting contour will have a non-convex shape and you will see the "extra" vertices as you put it.
Jay Sandhu
