3D geometric network

Hi.

I'm currently building an IT facility network for a campus. I'm able to represent the data in 3D, but need to do tracing analysis.
My first question is: Is tracing possible in a 3D environment? So far I've only been able to the shortest path analysis between two points in 3D using a network dataset.
My second question is: Which network do I use for tracing in 3D? A geometric network or a network dataset?
Finally, if it is possible, how do I do it?

Goog day,

I'm currently working on a project for a water network system containing all the utilities for my target area - which sounds exactly the same as what you are doing and need to do in the IT environment!

The 3D representation in ArcGIS 10 works pretty good - except for the snapping in ArcScene.

I want to agree with your questions since I'm also working in 3D and need to find a solution to do tracing in 3D. I would really like to know if it is possible to do tracing in a 3D environment since I would need to run querries on the system for maintenance purposes.

I have also encoutered the option of using either a network dataset or a geometric network for the system I'm working on but I would like to know which one would work the best for tracing in 3D since I cant find a way to represent a geometrical network in ArcScene 3D.

Is there a way that any of your specialists could give me some advice on the problems at hand as well as the the neccessary tools I could use in ArcGIS 10.
