Monitor Instance setup question

We are getting to deploy ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 and we will have server and portal each will be on its own VM. To monitor these both do we need only one instance of Monitor setup to have components watch both areas or should we the model where you have two monitor instances one to watch portal and another to watch server? Is it possible to have one monitor instance that looks over both portal and server?

You can use 1x instance of ArcGIS Monitor 2023 to register and monitor both your enterprise portal and ArcGIS Server site. In fact, 1x - ArcGIS Monitor can monitor multiple enterprise GIS resources (i.e., components).

thanks this helps. I knew it was the components that monitor the portal and server just didnt know what was the right setup. Thanks
