Creating Customer Notifications in ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1

Trying to figure out how to create better email notifications in ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1. Saw the "What's New in ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1" blog that showed that it is possible to make the notifications in email understandable. Does anyone know how this is achieved? I haven't been able to find any documentation from ESRI on how they created this.

Hi @HannahSturm,

The contents of email notifications from ArcGIS Monitor are not currently customizable. This information will be populated by Monitor. Only the email subject line is customizable at this time.

That's unfortunate, that's not what that blog post is showing or saying though. Very misleading. Is this functionality coming though to get it show like the screenshot?

I'm not clear on what you're saying. The image you attached from the What’s New in ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1 blog is an actual screenshot of an email notification from Monitor. This was taken from one of our test machines.

Hi Derek,

Attached is what I'm currently being sent in email via the notifications from Monitor. Are you saying that we are not able to customize my screenshot to look like the screenshot that came from the test machine where it has the layer name, state, status, etc?

Hi @HannahSturm,

In your second screenshot, it looks like you've configured a notification on a component's metrics. So what you're seeing is expected. I suspect you need to configure your notification to trigger based on an alert becoming active, not on a component metric.

What do you want to be notified on? Then can you please share a screenshot of how you've configured the notification?

Our organization has configured our notifications to be triggered upon a critical or warning alert being created, but is there a way to filter them down further to only trigger when a critical/warning alert for Response Time Avg or Max is created? Is there the ability to filter the alerts by alert type or even by component name? I only see the option by ID, which is a bit confusing and not intuitive. Thanks so much for your help!

Yes this is possible. When you create a notification, you can also specify the metric ID for the metric where you want to set the notification on.

For example, in the screenshot above: Component ID refers to the ArcGIS Server component that you want to watch for any critical alerts and Metric ID refers to the Response Time Avg metric of the ArcGIS Server component.

We use component IDs and metric IDs so we can be very specific on which component and which metric we want to set the notification on. Sorry. Please submit a feature enhancement request.

i'm trying to accomplish the same as @HannahSturm. i created a custom notification based on a specific alert and i'm still getting very little information in the email

The notification configuration appears correct based on what I can see in the screenshot. What release of ArcGIS Monitor are you using?

You'll need to upgrade your ArcGIS Monitor instance to 2024.1 or higher. The notification email content enhancements (mentioned in the original post of this thread) were added in the Monitor 2024.1 release.
