Are you able to share more information on your workflow? When you say you're using this feature layer with Maps for Adobe, how are you brining that layer in? Are you adding a webmap with this layer, or just adding the feature layer to an new mapboard? Are there any additional layers or edits that you make before syncing? Additionally, do you get any error messages or loading screens?

Is it possible for you to share the layer you're having issues with? This would be very helpful in pinpointing the specific issue you're seeing.

Thanks!

If you specify a Unique symbol for a hosted feature layer of point data as a Vector Symbol, Shapes (and in my case, I chose Star 3) and use this feature layer in ArcGIS Online for Creative Cloud (specifically, as of the time I'm writing this post, v 3.8.0. and on Illustrator 29.3.1), the map will not sync via the extension. It doesn't just not sync that feature layer, it blocks all other layers from syncing, so no map will generate unless that feature layer is removed.

Hello Anna, thanks for the quick response.

My workflow is that I create a mapboard within the Mapboard window just by drawing a boundary, entering dimensions, etc. and in Compilation, I add the feature layer as a layer on top. I do not replace the mapboard with a hosted Web Map. In my tests, I have replaced the Topographic basemap with the basemap developed for our organization, as well as authoritative layers such as USA States and Counties, just to test functionality. I do not receive any error messages. The tool will just remain "stuck" on Syncing at 10%, and even after leaving it on for over an hour, it will remain that way without generating any map data within Illustrator as a usable file.

The hosted feature layer is:

Dewberry Office Map - Overview

It's built from a simple CSV file. To clarify, the office locations are just X, Y coordinate points with fill and stroke HEX color values assigned. When I tried to display our headquarters office, delineated as such in the CSV as a separate "class," and I specified the Star 3 from Vector Symbol, Shapes, that is when this issue of not syncing appeared. Only when I replaced that specific Vector Symbol back to a basic point with color values assigned is when the extension resumed working as expected. This was discovered after a lot of different trial and error, for instance, using a public, Esri-provided basemap, not using any other feature layers (states, counties, etc.), parsing each data layer in separately, using a smaller dimension for the mapboard, logging in to AGOL via Edge while the extension is in use, refreshing the ArcGIS Online home screen on Edge just before syncing, and other methods.

Couple more questions. Is your data loading in the Compilation window as expected? All the points appear? Or are you only seeing issues after you hit sync to bring the data into Illustrator?

The issue is specifically that no map data at all will then sync, it will never generate a map in Adobe Illustrator.

It looks like we can reproduce the issue in house. The team is looking into finding a solution for this. In the meantime, I suggest using the Basic Shapes symbols in ArcGIS Online (these shapes are fully supported in the Maps for Adobe extension) and then, after syncing, edit your point shapes in Illustrator to whatever shape is needed.

Let me know if this helps!

@SBushey_Dewberry We've identified the cause. Map viewer has some newer symbol types that are not yet supported in Maps for Adobe. However, if you styled an entire point layer with these newer types, the map would still sync. You would just see an alert after clicking sync that lets you know your symbols in the map contain unsupported types, so they will be converted to default types. The issue that you've discovered arises when supported and unsupported symbol types are used within the same point layer. Thanks for bringing it to our attention as we identify the solution. In addition to the workaround that Anna shared, you can also use the print option from Map Viewer, and choose the AIX file format. The map will open in Illustrator with these mixed symbol types via that method.
