Illustrator won't open .AIX -- how I solved it

Hello, I bumped into some snags with Illustrator 2024 not recognizing the .AIX files and wanted to share my solution in hopes of accelerating someone's workflow.

My holdup appeared to be either installing the plugin from within Creative Cloud Marketplace rather than downloading from Esri, or possibly conflict with leftover files from a previous install for Illustrator 2023, or both.

So:

--uninstall plugin inside Creative Cloud interface

--trash any ARC GIS folders in Adobe plugin folder (in my case, inside the Illustrator 2023 folder) on local machine

--log out of everything and restart

--install ARC GIS Maps for Creative Cloud by downloading the package from Esri's site (ie download plugin through Esri using hard drive installation)

--twinkle fingers for luck

--log into everything again, .AIX is back

I'm using Illustrator 2024 on MacOS 12.7.1 and the most recent version of the Maps for Creative Cloud plugin.
