All,

I'm new to the Esri Community and hope to learn and help if and when I can. My name is Danny, I've worked in the Civil Engineer field for over 30 year now. My back ground is working with Civil 3D and from time to time ArcMap. I do need to learn more about ArcMap and hope to do so.

I’m trying to make a map that shows some of the projects we worked on thru the years. I started out by using the boundary areas from our Cadd dwg files. The Cadd files are basic polylines showning the limits of the project. The thought is that I will show the projects for the 60’s 70’s up to the year 2015.

So I started a new MXD file set up my new default gdb, got a MrSid files imported for the back ground and started importing my cad files. This process seems to work well, coordinates are working, the boundary are being placed in the proper location on the map etc.

I also created a new table that has fields for the project name, year, engineer, etc. I’m trying to associate the boundaries with the new table. This is the problem for me, I cannot seem to get this to work.

If someone could point me in the direction, how to doc etc.

Thank you for your time,

I hope for a great day for all!

Danny

First of all, I suggest looking at a couple of web pages to get a good handle on where you are headed:

What is GIS

What is GIS?

In a nutshell: you will need to convert your cad drawings to a polygon feature class. Then you will need to create a relationship between your polygons and your project table. I could go on, but there's not enough room here...
