Thanks Robert I was able to accomplish with the build footprints geoprocessing tool. You are also correct that the results a a bit different but its a great start and I will continue to investigate the differences.

Cheers

Rene Essiembre

Greetings,

To achieve this at ArcGIS 10 you will need to use the build footprints geoprocessing tool. (http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//001700000087000000.htm) A separate way to do this is to set nodata on the mosaic dataset (http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//00170000008q000000.htm). The define nodata will run raster as a GP tool but the results can be a little different, meaning the footprints will not change.
Hope this helps.

Robert

Using service definition processes in image server 9.3.1 I was able to remove "no-data" cells by recomputing the footprint by radiometry using a reprojected rectangular image process.

I would like to do the same process to remove the black band on some imagery using image extension 10. Does image extension coupled with a mosaic dataset have this same process as a function ?
