idea Combine ESRI's Two Cataloging Systems into One Awesome Product in ArcGIS Hub Ideas

ESRI currently has two cataloging systems in Geoportal Server and ArcGIS Hub. Background history shows Geoportal Server provides a "metadata catalog management app for data discovery". Geoportal Server provided the 'go to' place for large agencies to make their GIS data available to the public to meet open data policies. The Geoportal Server Team has a wealth of knowledge on metadata, optimization of search and discovery, taxonomies, and 'harvesting'. Then Esri's ArcGIS Hub product was introduced around 2020.

It would be a great idea if these two ESRI Teams, along with the new 'Metadata Editor Team', could work together across the aisle to leverage the experience and knowledge gained through the years of cataloging expertise of the Geoportal Team, and create the best Open Data cataloging system possible (ArcGIS Hub) to support large government organizations.

Hi @KristenWobbe1,
Thanks for your input! As you say, ArcGIS Hub and Esri Geoportal Server are products each with its own history, experience, and capabilities. Though we have no plans to merge them, we can always learn from each other. While new to the scene, the new ArcGIS metadata editor is also establishing a unified experience across the platform (that work is underway). Rest assured, we are working across the platform. I appreciate your thoughts about the continuous improvement needed and think you'll be happy to hear that ArcGIS Hub just got more awesome with the latest update. In particular, the update included a number of download enhancements. Here's more information:
