Hi Curt,

What ArcGIS Mobile 10 Build do you have installed? ArcGIS Mobile 10 Update 4 Build 2550 is the latest update and can be downloaded from Customer Care Portal. Have you tried resetting the Juno, does GPS Averaging behavior still occur in ArcGIS Mobile after resetting the Juno?

One diagnostic test to try is checking the GPS Averaging functionality in ArcPad as this will help identify whether it's software or hardware issue. Download ArcPad evaluation version and use the Find GPS utility in ArcPad (GPS Preferences) to determine the correct COM port, baud rate, etc for the GPS receiver you are using. After opening ArcPad on the Juno ST handheld, select Options from Main toolbar > select GPS Preferences to open GPS Preferences dialog window. In ArcPad GPS Preferences, use the Find GPS functionality (search or ??binoculars? button) to search for the right COM port and baud for your GPS receiver.

You need to make sure that your GPS is connected and turned on so the Find GPS tool can detect your GPS. The Port and Baud dropdown lists will be updated as the Find GPS tool searches for a connected GPS. Once a GPS has been detected you will be prompted to choose the GPS and use the corresponding settings. Then you can test GPS Averaging functionality by following instructions in these ArcPad Help topics,
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcpad/10.0/help/index.html#/GPS/00s10000001s000000/
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcpad/10.0/help/index.html#/Steps_to_activate_your_GPS/00s100000104000000/
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcpad/10.0/help/index.html#/GPS_Quality_Capture_and_Alerts_options/00s10000009w000000/
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcpad/10.0/help/index.html#/Steps_to_create_point_features_with_a_GPS/00s1000000t6000000/

If behavior is reproducible in ArcPad then it is likely hardware specific and you should submit support incident so you can work with mobile specialist to help resolve the issue.

I'm running ArcGIS Mobile 10 (latest build) on a Trimble Juno ST handheld GPS unit. The problem I'm having is that ArcGIS Mobile appears to get stuck when trying to collect a new point. I had it set to average 5 positions at first but now I have set to average only 1 position. When I tap to start averaging it just sits there forever saying 'averaging....'. It never actually collects a new point. I have a good GPS fix with low PDOP reported in the GPS status window of ArcGIS Mobile.

What is causing this problem?
