Does Trimble Positions require that you work with ArcSDE? We do not have SDE and have a file geodatabase with a workflow that utilizes GPS Analyst and we just found out that it will no longer be supported and are looking into Trimble Positions.

Thanks Dave.

We've got a trial version running and I've hit my first roadblock with differential correction.

In the Trimble Positions Release Notes it mentions that if you use "base stations that require a separate GLONASS navigation file to be downloaded, you must first make a copy of the base station and add the GLONASS navigation file as an additional navigation file address."

We use Trimble GeoXT 6000s that are capable of collecting GLONASS data. My problem is that I don't know what the "GLONASS navigation file address" is. I've tried using the file addresses that exist within the properties of the base station but those don't seem to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kerry

No you do not need SDE. Positions will create a mobile cache of your data, utilizing Project Manager. You then synchronize your cache back into the database. Positions requires a file geodatabase. As long as you are up to date on your maintenance with Correct and Analyst, you can convert for free, just contact your Trimble dealer/reseller.

Trimble Positions will work with any type of geodatabase (personal, file, enterprise). It will also work with ArcSDE services. The mobile cache you're referring to is part of Esri's ArcGIS for Windows Mobile workflow. The mobile cache can be generated from a geoprocessing tool that gets installed with ArcGIS for Windows Mobile on the desktop computer running ArcMap. This mobile cache can then be 'consumed' in Esri's Mobile Project Center (also installed with ArcGIS for Windows Mobile on the desktop) tool for authoring mobile projects. In order to fully enable an ArcGIS for Windows Mobile project for high accuracy data collection, you will need to enable your geodatabase and map document using the Trimble Positions Desktop add-in, generate a mobile cache (or publish a mobile service if using ArcGIS for Server) using Esri's geoprocessing tool, create a mobile project in Mobile Project Center (with the Positions Mobile Project Center extension installed), and deploy that project manually or shared via ArcGIS Online/Server/Portal as per Esri documentation.

This workflow was recently discussed in an Esri Live Training Seminar (http://training.esri.com/gateway/index.cfm?fa=catalog.webCourseDetail&courseID=2593).

There are also good resources on the resources.arcgis.com site (http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/windows-mobile/app/index.html#//007v00000003000000).

The ArcPad workflow is different and does not require a mobile cache or the Mobile Project Center application as those are specific to ArcGIS for Windows Mobile. ArcPad projects enabled for high accuracy can be created directly from ArcMap running the Trimble Positions Desktop add-in.

Hope that helps,

Matt

I attached a screenshot of what I am receiving, but should be getting 3 options instead of the 1 "Create" option.
I have tried de-activating the tools, and restarting ArcMap, then re-activating again, but no change in anything.
It seems they are not communicating w/ each other??

Thank you in advance,

MK

Hi...

I apologize in advance for these obvious questions...

1.

I have kind of a unique case and I was wondering if you could provide some guidance. I have been working with the fieldAppSample provided with the toolkit and I have successfully created points with custom attributes. I need to add the ability to create a point feature every second and store external sensor values as attributes. With the standard workflow creating the new DataRow and passing it to the mobileCaptureManager, and then starting and stopping a point is too slow. Is there another method of point collection available that better suits this workflow.

-Thanks,

-Joe

It is common practice, especially for surveyors, to post process using multiple (typically 3) base stations to get better accuracy.

I just posted this in the ArcPad forum because I forgot that this thread existed...

I'm using the latest version of Trimble Positions Desktop Add-in. I found on the Trimble Positions blog that it is possible to share a Jet database between users on different desktop machines in different locations. So I created a Jet database, moved it to a location on our network, and used the Configuration Tool to set my ODBC source to the new location of Jet database. Here's the link to the blog post I'm referring to: http://positionsblog.trimble.com/?p=70 (second to last paragraph).

My problem is that when I log off of my computer and log back in, the Trimble Positions Office Database fails to reconnect and I get the following error message:

I noticed in the blog post that I need to be using a UNC path with the Jet database. I tried to input this using the Advanced button on the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup screen (below)

and then inputting it as the Default Directory (below)

but this didn't seem to change the path of the Jet database, and I still receive the error message.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Kerry

Figured out that last problem. The UNC path needs to be in the "Database Name" field on the Select Database screen within the ODBC setup applet.

Hello,

I am having difficulty with the Trimble Positions Desktop Add-In (TPDA) tool playing nice with ArcPad Data Manager toolbar within ArcMap 10.1. According to the User Guide for TPDA, I should have different options than what is being shown to me in ArcMap.

MK

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I am having the same issue.

Thanks
