Hi Jason:

Yes, you've missed configuration steps. This is the behavior when you do not add the necessary entries to the web.config file and/or do not configure IIS on your web server to serve the Silverlight MIME types. Please refer to the Prerequisites topic in the help. Once you have done this, the map will appear in the web part inside the browser as you expect.

The right-click functionality you are reporting is based on Silverlight's out-of-browser capabilities. While, as you have found, some of this functionality slipped into the 1.1.1 software, this mode of operation is not a supported part of the product.

FYI, when your organization is able to move to SharePoint 2010 and version 2.0 of ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint, these configuration steps will no longer be required. There is also a great deal of functionality available (geoprocessing, extensibility, theming - just to name a few) that is not available at version 1.1.1.

Followed the online help for MapIt 1.1.1, I installed MapIt on a machine with Windows 2003 and Sharpoint 3.0. I added successfully the ESRI Map Web Part to a new page. However, the default ArcGIS Online base map was not displayed (please see the attached ArcGISMapWebPart.jpg). I don't see the three buttons for base map selection and the default Street map is not displayed as the online help indicates.

Question 1: Is this expected or I have missed something in the configuration steps?

I right-click the icon at the upper-right corner, and a pop-up menu appears showing the options of "Silverlight" and "Install ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint on this computer". I clicked the "Install ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint..." and a pop-up windows appears showing the Street map, the "Global" icon for base map configuration, and navigation tool. I can change the base map using the base map configuration dialog.

Question 2: Is this normal that the ArcGIS Map web part is displayed as a desktop windows instead of embedded in a web page?

Thanks,

Thanks for pointing out the area where the problem might be. I went back and double checked the web.config file and found a typo. Fixed the typo and the web part appears in the web page as designed.
