idea Add the ability to automatically remove the associated CAD layer when a user removes a Web Feature Layer or Document Feature Layer in ArcGIS for AutoCAD Ideas

Currently it is a two step process, which is a bit annoying. When the user removes a WFL if there is an associated CAD Layer they should be prompted if they want to remove that as well.

Thanks,
marc

Re: Add the ability to automatically remove the associated CAD layer when a user removes a Web Feature Layer or Document Feature Layer - Status changed to: Closed

Hi @Marc_Graham,

Thanks for your insightful Ideas and frequent community activity. We decided not to pursue this item and are marking it as Closed.

This is, in part, to avoid instances such as the following:

- Say a drawing contains a GIS web feature layer of points and a corresponding CAD layer.

- Some time later, CAD user adds line, polygon geometry to that layer.

- Still later, the user removes the GIS web feature layer and deletes the CAD layer.

Whether intentional or not, they will have not only deleted the GIS-linked points, but will also have deleted the other geometry stored on that CAD layer. Our current approach is to avoid these types of scenarios.

Hi @MichaelDavidsonPM

That’s a fair point. I’d like you to consider however, providing the user the option. On deletion of the Esri layer you could prompt the user: there is an associated cad layer xyzx. Would you like to remove this also?

The user can choose to or not, depending on whether they have added additional features. They should know if they have.

This could be a good middle ground, of simplifying the cad layer management, while providing a decision point for the user to think, is this what I want.

cheers,

Marc
