Field Maps 25.2.0 update Creating Issues with Trimble Mobile Manager

Hello,

Is anyone else experiencing Trimble Mobile Manager issues when trying to connect an external GPS to Field maps? Field Maps 25.2.0 removed all previous connections to external recievers. Connection attempts lead to endless looping from Field Maps to Trimble Mobile Manager.

Field Maps 25.2.0 update has created huge disruptions across our organization.

Another issue: the keyboard does not move out of the way when you're typing. Usually the attribute field auto-scrolls so the keyboard is just below the field in which you are typing.

Hi @NorthVanForester , what devices are you using (phone, trimble receiver models)? Also, what version of Trimble Mobile Manager is install? Ensure you have the latest version of that as well. Thanks!

Hi Colin,

We are using iPad mini 5's or newer with Trimble R2s. We are using TMM 2025.20.221.

Trimble released a video with a new workflow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myTRdNGtG8c

This is the opposite of the old instructions provided by Esri. Documentation on the Esri site seems to now be updated to reflect the change in workflow.

Yes this is the updated workflow for the new version of Field Maps 25.2 as the underlying architecture has changed as it relates to connecting to Trimble receivers. This is why existing Providers needed to be cleared. Are you still having issues with an endless loop when connecting? Have you already tried removing and re-adding in both Field Maps and TMM?

We have had two cases of endless loop bouncing between TMM and Field Maps on iOS. The users weren't able to turn off or hard reset the iPad. They had to wait until the battery died. In one case it had to be taken to IT for a factory reset.

@jmaxwell_braun @NorthVanForester if possible can you both submit this to Esri Tech Support so we can better track the impact. It also will not hurt reaching out to Trimble support. Both are aware of this issue and looking into it.

@ColinLawrence will do. I didn't submit to Esri tech support because the issue is intermittent and I cannot reproduce reliably.

In one case yesterday the user was able to interrupt the loop by quickly switching to integrated location provider when Field Maps is visible, then restarting the iPad. It was fine after that.

We are having a lot of issues as well with our Trimble R2 units connecting to the iPads. Basically once the R2 is shut off, it will not connect to the iPad again unless I forget the device in the bluetooth settings, and reconfigure it.

Hey @ChrisKing12 can you confirm the devices (mobile and trimble) you are using? What are the versions of Field Maps and TMM? There were some changes in this area with 26.2.

Are you connecting to your Trimble device in TMM first before adding as a provider in Field Maps?

I am using and iPad Pro M5 on 26.6 with a Trimble DA2

Field Maps Version - 26.2.2 Build 2812
Trimble Mobile Manager Version - App version 2026.12.8 TPSKD Version 2025.1.28488.43

Below is a video of what is happening. Happens when I connect to TMM then open a map in Field Maps.

Our looping issue usually happened when there was a mismatch in updates between TMM and Field Maps (one of them updated, one had not). We're using a MDM platform so it's difficult to manually control updates. When looping starts, users were able to quickly set Field Maps back to integrated GPS to stop the loop. After that it was just a matter of making sure both apps are updated and restarting the iPad.

Thank you for these details. You don't happen to have two different version of Field Maps installed on this device do you (ie also having the Field Maps Beta installed)?

We have come across this "Unable to open link" error before and are looking into it already. Im wondering if the root cause is the same or if these are separate issues.

Would you be able to share the troubleshooting logs from Field maps after reproducing this? If you reset the Location Provider in Field Maps does this fix the behavior for you?
Edit: Can you also share the logs from Trimble Mobile Manager as well?
