25.2.0 pop-up performance issues

Hi,

We are seeing significant lag for pop-ups:

Clicking on the web map spins for 5-10 seconds before showing any items
Items (layers/features in the pop-up list) are taking 5-20 seconds to load in the item list. The layers at the bottom of the map appear to be loading first, meaning the items at the top that previously appeared first are the last to load and significantly delayed
Selecting a feature from the item list then takes up to 10 seconds to display pop up content

For maps with ~5 active layers it's slowing things down.

For maps with ~20 active layers it's basically unusable.

Layers are rendering on the map fine. There's no decrease in map/network performance for the layers that we can see.

Same map in 25.1.0, pop-ups load basically immediately. Corroborated across 6+ maps and dozens of devices.

Anyone else seeing this or have suggestions?

Really wishing Field Maps got the 'classic' release treatment...

We are seeing similar performance problems. I'm not noticing layers loading from the bottom up, but overall performance is far slower. The basemap and layers take about 4x as long to load in the new app version. Popups will not load until the map and layers are fully done loading, so if you pan somewhere and click on something it takes well over 10 seconds for the pop up. If you pan somewhere and let everything load then the pop up is faster bit still slower than 25.1. It seems like Field Maps got the WAB to ExB experience, new features no one uses and new bugs and performance issues that affect everyone else. So much for pre-release testing.

Also, I know you mentioned multiple devices but can you provide and example or most commonly used and its platform/version? Please also let me know if this is Portal or AGOL and some info about the types of layers in these maps.

Yes, we have a ticket open on this too already. We are seeing it on iPhone and Android in online maps, not offline areas. It doesn't seem to make a difference what the device is. We use Portal 11.3. This occurs on point, line, and polygon feature service layers.

Yes we have a support ticket.

ArcGIS Online
Hosted feature layer views
Polygons, polylines and point layers
Some maps have a lot of layers and features but it's occurring on one with just 7 layers, 5 enabled for pop-up, clicking on an area with 3 features at a zoomed in extent.
All layers in WGS84 web mercator
Occurring on maps with/without map level layer filters. Most views have an item level filter
Occurring on maps with tasks enabled
IPads and iPhones mostly. 18.6 or 18.7? iOS

There's a possibility it's an arcade expression in the pop-up itself when opening the individual feature. It's 5-10sec vs immediate when side by side to 25.1. We can live with that for now, it's the delayed list of layers/features to choose from that's really slowing things down.

Its not only occurring on Task enabled maps, correct? A map could have been configured with Tasks ahead of the mobile release, so I just want to confirm the behavior is not restricted to those maps.

Any chance you can share a map with us? If so, share the map and layers to a Group and invite "arcgisfieldmaps". Please let me know if you do this so I can check this account.

Our users are reporting the same issue - when tapping on the map, the list of features to load is slower and the opening of the popup of the selected item is slower. The lag time for us is not as bad as some have described above, but it is slower than 25.1.0. One user has noticed that it seems more difficult to tap on features than in 25.1.0 and has asked if the threshold has changed in terms of how close you need to tap to a feature.

I noticed this on some layers in our maps after the 25.2.0 Field Maps update too. I was able to improve the performance of some of my popups. Something I also noticed was when I edited the forms of those layers in Field Maps Designer, I was unable to save until "Required fields and field groups must be added to the form." Once the required fields were added (all hidden inside a group) and saved, the performance of those layers popups improved.

For reference, we are on Enterprise 11.3 and the layers that experienced performance issues are part of the Utility Network 6.

I wanted to leave this comment in case it helps anyone else with their popup performance issues.

I have users with the same issue and I test on my phone with Field Maps version 25.2.1 and we get no popup at all. Maybe we didn't wait long enough (but we waiting up to a minute for the popup to display), which means the points are not editable. It's really throwing a wrench into our field staff work tasks today!

They need to roll back the update immediately. There are so many issues.

I figured out my issue. The layer that was not working had 'aggregation' enabled. As soon as I disabled it the layer works fine again.

Where can I address my invoice to ESRI for my QA/QC hours I spent troubleshooting the issue?

Our staff entering data into Field Maps in the field have reported problems selecting points. They have to try multiple times before the point is actually listed in the items list (ie the list of all the items that got selected by their tap).

Also, it appears that Markups are all combined into one markup layer now. Previously, staff were able to create multiple markup layers and turn these layers on/off as needed. Now if they want to view markup they have to view ALL the markup items from the combined markup layer and the map is very cluttered. Having multiple, separate markup layers was much more useful.

We are also having periodic issues selecting existing features. And, some of us are noticing that the screen becomes unresponsive for a while when we are trying to fill out our smartforms (edit forms) in Field Maps 25.2.1. I wonder if this has to do will poor cellular connection for us, at times, if the new version of Field Maps is more heavily reliant on cellular signal strength??

Not only on Task enabled maps. We had 6 maps (2 simpler with Tasks, 4 more complex but not Tasks)

The performance seems to have improved which suggests it was tied to some ArcGIS Online server-side issues.

However we did not see any issues whatsoever when comparing AGOL and 25.1 alongside 25.2 during the period. We tested 4 devices in the office and got widespread reports from the field explicitly for the users that updated.

Seeing unusual behaviour elsewhere today:

Get loading icon and no form when creating a new feature from template. It's a very basic point layer.
Form uses Arcade, has a mix of $originalfeature, edit mode = insert, if statements, GetUser($layer).username, now(). Using variables and accounting for if inserting or updating i.e. no original feature reference on insert. Worked fine in 25.1 and online.
Remove the arcade, form starts working in 25.2
Add the same arcade calculations back in, form continues to work in 25.2?

Suggests there was some temporary performance hiccup but there's no other indications e.g. everything worked fine on 25.1, ArcGIS Online, and 25.2 when interacting with the layer outside of creating a new feature.

Logs have one line in the logs but it's not super helpful

@ChristopherCounsell we have a bead on this popup performance with expressions and hope to have it addressed soon. Its not specific to Tasks maps, I was just unsure at the time last week.

Regarding the other unusual behavior. Do you know if you were on 25.2.0 or 25.2.1? A fix was applied for errors returning when using $originalFeature in the 25.2.1 patch release and im wondering if that is related to what you saw. Note: 25.2.2 was just released today so double check on that and make sure you are not having issues around this still. Thank you!

This was logged as BUG-000180053 - In ArcGIS Field Maps 25.2.0, loading pop-ups that use expressions is slow when identifying or editing a set of features

I understand it's been recognized by the product team and being investigated. Would encourage anyone to contact Esri support and get your organization attached to the defect if you are experiencing, to help provide information and understand the impact on users.

Just wanted to see if there were any updates on this bug. Map load time and pop-up performance are still abysmal in the latest Android version and my hundreds of users are getting pretty frustrated and angry. I'm really not enjoying taking the heat for something I have no control over and worked just fine for years.

We hope to get that submitted to the app stores this weekend so it is available early next week. Saw this issue as well for attribute expressions in the pop-up even if the expressions were not used (as in they do not appear in a text or in the fields pop-up as examples.) I assume this means that all of the attribute expressions are being calculated upfront.

If I create an Arcade pop-up, the type that returns a dictionary, those do not delay features from showing up when selected on the map or searched for since they calculate after the feature is selected in the list.

This appears to be a change in behavior or the lag from this is greater than it used to be. Hope this is worth mentioning.

Hi @MitchellGrafstein this should be corrected in the upcoming release. It should be available in the app stores within the day (25.2.7 on Android and 25.2.5 on iOS). Can you check your workflows with this version and make sure it covers your scenario. Thanks!
