Error Syncing Template Symbology in Field Maps

My template symbology in field maps disappeared halfway through the creation of a form for a point layer and now I have no option anywhere to update template symbology and sync my templates. When I go to drop a point in the field map now I see the same transparent point for all categories instead of my default symbology (shown below).

This happened once before during my configuration of the field map, but a splash screen opened when I entered the template editor asking me to update the templates. That splash screen hasn't popped up again and my template symbology is stuck. This also seems to be affecting field calculations in my form.

Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Can you try making a change to in the Styles pane in Map Viewer?

After you make changes to the style (such as adding a category), you should see a prompt to Sync the templates in the template window.

Thank you for your response!

I was actually coming back today to say that if you reset to show location only, sync the template in field maps, then go back and choose your default visualization in your web map the sync option will appear again in field maps and reset the symbology.

However, next time I will keep your suggestion in mind, seems like that would be a faster solution.

Update: This worked before but I've come across the same problem and now it no longer seems to prompt me to sync my template symbology

I am configuring an edit widget in Experience Builder, and the template symbology defaults to empty circles.

I have tried syncing my templates in both Field Maps Designer and Map Viewer. I tried updating the symbology of the layer to all new symbols — it doesn't prompt to sync templates. I tried using the layer in another map — the problem persists. When I update the default symbology of the layer through its visualization page, it doesn't prompt a sync either.

I can prompt the template sync pop-up by adding a new unique value in the symbology pane. However, when I sync the templates, only the new unique value’s symbology is updated — my original values remain empty circles.

I'm starting to think this problem occurs because an item's visualization page sets default symbology using Map Viewer Classic symbols, but it appears the new Map Viewer doesn't have a way to honor those default symbology settings.

Hi @g_maps,

Could you try styling the layer in Map Viewer and see if that fixes the issue? Its a best practice to use Map Viewer for web maps that you want to use with newer apps like Experience Builder, since they are built on the same API.

I redid all the symbology in map viewer and that did not prompt the template sync either

I'm sorry you're still having trouble with templates. I recommend starting a ticket with tech support so they can help with troubleshoothing the problem.
