Preparing data for offline use in Field Maps

Hello, I am struggling to get my data to be visible offline. (using ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3)

I have:

- a feature layer which is not hosted in portal (references my registered sde database)

- a related table (relationship is based on Global ID/GUID)

- Tiled basemap

When connected to the internet, everything works as expected, I can create new features in the feature layer, add inspections in the related table etc. It is when I am trying to work offline I am experiencing problems. I have ensured that the layer and tabled are versioned and synced enabled when publishing to portal, I have created offline map areas in the field maps designer and have no errors in the offline configuration section. When I try to download the areas using the mobile app I get a "Sync Failed" General Errors: no data. The basemap tiles appear to download but the layer and table are not visible in the map (red exclamation mark in triangle: layer failed to load).

Any insight would be appreciated

When you published your service to Portal, did you publish with all the fields in the feature class made visible?

I'd suggest testing if you can download the map with an administrator role to rule out portal user permission issues.

your data connection needs at least data editor permission on the geodatabase to take map offline even if you are only referencing the data.

Field maps requires data as a hosted feature layer.

In response to Fiona's initial post the data listed is not field maps compatible for editing and at least one layer must be editable for Feild maps.

Layers in ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, or Portal for ArcGIS must be hosted and not contained in the map. If you add your layer from a file—for example, a shapefile or a comma-separated values (.csv) file—to the map, the layer is stored in the map. Instead, publish it as a hosted feature layer if you want it to be editable in Field Maps. See Add layers from files in ArcGIS Online and Publish hosted feature layers in ArcGIS Online, or Add layers from files in ArcGIS Enterprise and Publish hosted feature layers in ArcGIS Enterprise.

Publish hosted feature layers is required. See the links above.

For clarification sake, if someone is using a properly setup enterprise geodatabase with a portal, you can prepare and publish your data as a feature service to make it offline capable in Field Maps (edit capable) without publishing the data as a hosted feature layer.

It is hard to pinpoint where the problem is stemming from as you have multiple possible sources. Having a related, editable table certainly adds a level of complexity to your workflow. For troubleshooting purposes, I'd suggest publishing a test copy of the referenced feature layer on it's own (without the related table) to see if the same download error persists. At the very least, this will isolate whether the problem is stemming from the feature layer or from the related table.

I was having similar issues creating offline areas. If you have attachments enabled, you must go through the attachment tables and make sure editor tracking is enabled for all of the tables. If there are some inconsistencies where some layers have tracking enabled and others do not it may be causing the offline failures.
