      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Hi Guillaume,&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;An Esri global account must be registered with ArcGIS.com in order to log in to ArcGIS.com, or to Explorer Online. If you didnt do this step, you can do it by clicking the 'New Here' link in the sign-in dialog in Explorer Online which opens the Sign in page on ArcGIS.com; then click the 'Register your Esri Global Account' link on that page and follow the instructions. This help topic gives you full info on the process: &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;A href="http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisonline/help/index.html#/Registering_for_an_account/010q0000003p000000/"&gt;http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisonline/help/index.html#/Registering_for_an_account/010q0000003p000000/&lt;/A&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;One other thing could be that both username and password are case sensitive.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Hope this helps. I'm not sure what the problem could be - is there a proxy server in place where you're connecting from?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

Open ArcCatalog. Click on Customize menu -&amp;gt; ArcCatalog Options&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;In the Connections tab, set the proxy path and port. Set the user and pwd if were necessary.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;2.       <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;I ran into the Proxy 407 error just last week. After searching all of the forums I couldn't figure out why my user was still getting this issue. We are running ArcGIS Desktop 10, Service Pack 3. After Service Pack 1 apparently you are not able to enter in the proxy settings manually into ArcCatalog because they are read automatically from IE Settings. After much frustration, I found that part of SP3 did not take and I had to install an SP3 patch located here: &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;A href="http://resources.arcgis.com/content/patches-and-service-packs?fa=viewPatch&amp;amp;PID=160&amp;amp;MetaID=1833"&gt;http://resources.arcgis.com/content/patches-and-service-packs?fa=viewPatch&amp;amp;PID=160&amp;amp;MetaID=1833&lt;/A&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;On a side note, my user's computer had crashed and been rebuilt so all installs were fresh.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;This was a known bug from ESRI.       <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Seems to be the same problem in 10.1&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Proxy 407 error when I try to add an ArcGIS online basemap in Arcmap.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;In ArcCatalog&amp;gt;Connections &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;-Address and Port are correctly read from Windows 7 Internet Settings.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;-Not sure about User name\Password i.e. I can connect to externally &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;hosted services in ArcCatalog just fine going through the proxy with&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;or without User name\Password so I assume that's read from the OS also?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Maybe 10.1 needs a similar patch...&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
