Sure you can it just depends on what you want the end function to be... If you want to serve up the map on the web publicly or privately but only want to allow the pdf to be viewed by a machine on the office network or a single local machine just include the link to the in the image url and related link like so... e:\blah blah blah (mount a removable drive as a volume such as "e" or something other than your existing drive letters. your could even use a network share) This way the information can remain local and there is no need to host this information. In firefox the link will populate in a new window and you will need to hit enter behind the local path in the address bar this will allow the file to open. Internet Explorer just freaks out and isnt much help.

Now if you want to publicly host this map like and allow access to these PDFs the local option isnt an option those will need to be on a web facing box of some kind.

I have a field in my shapefile that is a text field and it is a path to a pdf...I enabled hyperlink but when I import into ArcGIS online, it does not enable the link to click on. It just shows the path without the ability to clock on it. I also have another field that is a URL and this seems to be working great..

Does anyone know if it is possible to create the link to pdf in ArcGIS online?

It's success in my Web ADF environment.

The pdf files are located in the local (for example C:\temp\1.pdf), how do you use URL to open the PDF file, what's the URL style?

Thanks a lot,

Charles

I have a field in my shapefile that is a text field and it is a path to a pdf...I enabled hyperlink but when I import into ArcGIS online, it does not enable the link to click on. It just shows the path without the ability to clock on it.

From my understanding it isn't possible to link to a local machine in ArcGIS online. If you can host the pdfs online then you can use the URL to link to them otherwise you just get the path.
