ArcGIS Explorer 1500 and windows 7

Hi,
I wonder why ArcGIS explorer is changing the windows theme to windows basic? I have checked my pc:s requirements and all of them are there.

Is there a way to configure Explorer to not change the windows theme?

But maybe it is not the explorer changing the theme?

Hi,

I can confirm that Explorer will turn off Aero themes, but also that it should switch it back when the application closes. The reason for this is for improved performance when working in 3D, and the decision was made to turn this off once at startup while Explorer is running.

Well, is there is a way to prevent that?

I am writing a plugin, and are not using 3D.

Each time I launch the debugger, it spawns explorer. And each time, obviously, the windows theme is changed. This change takes time and is very annoying, making debugging an 'unpleasant' experience.

Should not the theme only be changed if 3D is used? Why change it unnecessarily?
I vote for being able to turn this theme change off..

Disabling the advanced visual effects is one of the main ways recommended by Microsoft to boost the performance of Windows 7 (see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Optimize-Windows-7-for-better-performance).

To provide the best user experience, even in 2D, we would always want to switch to the Basic theme. If you're developing an Add-in for ArcGIS Explorer which is going to be deployed to a wider audience but you do not know in advance what their machine spec will be, then the switch to the Basic theme definitely makes sense.

Having said that - feel free to propose the idea at http://ideas.arcgis.com

That is an assumption you make there. In my opinion, changes effecting the behavior of the whole system should not be up to the developers of ArcGIS Explorer, but to the person who runs the machine in question. I think allowing the user a choice as Explorer is starting up, is the way to go. Simply ask the user if he/she wants to switch to the basic theme or not. Make it a setting.

3D view is not coming with ArcGIS Explorer in Windows 7....does anyone else is also facing the same problem!!??
And is there any solution to this problem??

Hi,

If you're not seeing the 3D view then it's likely that your graphics card driver is out of date - if it's a laptop try your laptop vendor's website or alternatively try the graphics card vendor's website.

I think enforcing how a user should run their operating system is such a fundamentally bad way to approach this. If anything, you guys should focus on making the software run faster rather than disabling things on people's computers in order to get the same effect. What are you guys going to do next, lower my resolution too?
