I did resolve my issue (but with some help!). I mosaicked the DEMs in ERDAS but I am sure the Mosaic to New Raster Tool would work. These files were just too big, too many pixels, so I used the Extract by Mask tool and clipped the DEM to my study boundary. Then I created a geodatabase in which to store the contours which seemed to resolve the issue of size. Hope that helps!

Hello,

I am trying to generate a contour from a 30m DEM. This process works fine until I mosaic the DEMS (5 counties) and then run the contour on the mosaic, it works about 50% and then crashes. Also I have trouble with a small interval of 0.3m. It usually works at 0.5m but not always. Also should the DEM be in a certain file format to function better (e.g.tif, GRID...).

It's better to run a contour over a mosaicked DEM because I have a very large study area and if I merge contours later there are alot of slivers.

Thanks!!

Hi,

I am having the same problem now. I have mosaic'd 5 different tif images and am trying to run the contour function, but it fails, even when it runs all the way to 99% completed.

Did you ever resolve this issue? Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Cheers,
Drew
