Hello,
I'm an undergraduate at Appalachian state university working with Arc GIS for a final project. I am plotting all the various power plants in the United States by what they use to generate electricity.

I found some very useful data with all the lat/long information plus annual emissions of various pollutants and wattage produced the only problem is, when I used the excel tables to import the X and y data I cannot seem to change the symbology for any of the points graduated depending on amount of pollutants released). When I open the attribute table associated with the X and Y coordinates it seems to be completely void with the exception of the headers.

I am wondering how I can link the data from the attribute table where I found the coordinates (lat/long) that also contains all the emissions information with the points that I have placed upon my map.

When I use the Indentify tool to click on the points all the data in the attribute table seems to show up which is just confusing me further.

Any Help appreciated,
if any more information is required just ask, this is my first post so I'm not sure how well I'm following the forum rules.
