Hi John

I am able to use ArcGIS Explorer Desktop 2500 on my personal Windows 8 machine without problems. Just an FYI. I too hope that this free and very capable GIS viewer is around for a good while.

Ellen

zydeco42,

You are asking about "ArcGIS Explorer Online," which is a depreciated online tool, that is still functioning but not supported anymore.

This is the forum for "ArcGIS Explorer for Desktop," which is a client based program, not a browser based program.

While there are no official statements about depreciation of ArcGIS Explorer for Desktop, it is not looking promising. The current release doesn't work on Windows 8.

Soon there will likely be no free viewer with ESRI.

Best Regards,

John

I am thinking about building an online based application that will be used by user who do not have ArcGIS licenses and I am thinking about using ArcExplorer. I need to do this relatively quickly and I have pretty much no programming/scripting experience. I was wondering if anyone knows how long ArcExplorer will be continued to be supported by ESRI?

Thanks
