ArcGIS Explorer cannot display WMS Services!!

What a disapointment!!!

All of my WMS Services which can be loaded easily and correctly into all versions of desktop ArcGIS and other opensource brands of desktop GIS as well as my Webapps, cannot be shown in ArcGIS Explorer!

The layers from the service are listed when the connection is made, and the layer is loaded into ArcGIS Explorer..but that is where the fun stops. No Features, no error messages, nothing.

What is the use of ArcGIS Explorer when you can´t load external wms services into it?

Thanks for your post. Are your WMS externally/publically accessible? If so, I will happily test them in order to help determine why they are not successfully displaying in this case.

Here you will see the layers available. They will be loaded into ArcGIS Explorer, but do not get displayed.

Thanks for the test service - I have just tried this in the imminent ArcGIS Explorer 1500 and the layers seem to display fine. I do not know the details of your WMS but I do know we have fixed an issue relating to WMSs which return specific fixed image sizes so possibly that has resolved the issue.

Hello,
I've tried with version1200, both Englisch and German GUI. No problem loading and displaying the WMS service. But I cannot get a popup (or GetFeatureInfo for WMS service). My http sniffer showed no getfeatureinfo request from AGX to the server... is it even possible with AGX1200?

Joerg,

This is possible - you need to enable popup content for the WMS. Right click the WMS in the Contents window > Properties > Popup Content then check the box to "Display a popup window".

I have done that. I have tried it with a different WMS. Identify in ArcMap works fine (GetFeatureInfoRequest), in AGX nothing happens.
Tried with an ArcGIS Server service (from one of the sampleserver)... works fine.

you'd have to wait for 1500 release to see this functionality. Note though, you can see popups from WMS services in 2D view only.
