HELP!!! Viewing Custom layer maps in Explorer

Hi,

I am running into the issue if I add a layer file it does not appear as a map on Arc Explorer. But let explain further -

If I take and create a single layer from an ESRI created map which had a table joined to it, it loads into Arc Explorer and I am able to see the layer. But if I create a custom map and create a layer file, and download into Explorer the map does not show but does appear in the table of contents. But if I try bring in just the shape file that this map is based off of I am able to view the shape in Explorer. But as soon as I join the table and export as a layer it no longer display in Arc Explorer. Any ideas here? I am providing my company with the usefulness of this product to my department heads next week. If I am unable to figure this out we will mostly like will not use this product.

Terri: You could join the table to the shapefile in ArcMap and then use the Export Data function to export the joined shapefile to a new shapefile. The new shapefile will have permanant attribute fields from the table. Now consume the new shapefile in AGX. Don't give up on ArcGIS Explorer!

Hello all,

I also realize that you could export to a new Shapefile to create a permanent attribute table with all the desired values.

However, I am trying to maintain a dynamic connection between the Shapefile and the joined table. I need that in order to deliver this data input system for a client.

Does ArcExplorer support joined tables at all? Especially those joins and symbol categories made in ArcMap then saved as a Layer file?

Chris

Will this work?

Create a file geodatabase (FGDB) and add your featureclass and table. In ArcMap, import your featureclass and table. Join the table to the featureclass and make any symbology changes you wish. Save your map. Now, from ArcMap, create a Layer File (.LYR) of your featureclass and consume the LYR file in ArcGIS Explorer. See attached.

If the FGDB is accessible to the ArcMap owner and AGX user, then the ArcMap person can make changes to the featureclass and/or joined table and the results will be available to your AGX end-user.
