I do a lot of work with Landsat satellites, and want to create layer packages which I can import into ArcGIS Explorer. I created the layer package, and I uploaded it to my content. I then deleted the files off of my computer (to see if it is working). I opened ArcMap, and imported directly off my site, and everything lined up great. However, I did the same thing in ArcGIS Explorer, and I got an error message that the layer package had an Unknown Coordinate System. Now, as I stated, I don't get this problem in ArcMap. What can I do to fix this so that I can run my layer packages in Explorer?

In ArcMap if you look at the spatial reference for the imagery layer (layer properties -> source tab) it likely says 'Undefined'

If you know coordinate system that your landsat imagery is in, you can use ArcToolBox to define the coordinate system for the layer.

In toolbox use Data Management tools -> Projections and Transformations -> Define Projection

Once the spatial reference is defined it will open in ArcGIS Explorer.

Hello!

Did the posted solution work for you? I'm just wondering because I have layer package with an ArcSDE datasource and it points to WGS84 vector data, but the data is loaded as SQL spatial and registered with the SDE. Similar to what you described, it works in ArcMap, but not in Explorer. Hmm.

If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

Max
