topic AG Explorer doesn't read AI binary grids or mosaic datasets?! in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop Questions

Correct me if I am wrong, but it appears that ArcGIS Explorer cannot view either ArcInfo binary grids or ArcGIS mosaic datasets. One is a GDAL supported raster format created by ESRI and the other is, arguably, the most useful raster format ESRI has devised; and they can't be viewed in Explorer? good grief.

You can use a mosaic dataset in AGX by creating a layer file (lyr) referencing the mosaic dataset. Then you can add the layer file through the Add Data function in AGX.

One of the good things about this setup is you can, by default, turn off footprints/boundaries (otherwise AGX will try to identify the footprint polys), and tweak the symbology for your layer (ie turning off stretching or modifying your bands).

Just remember, mosaic datasets use absolute file paths when referencing the underlying image files.
