How do I perform a distinct count operation in a text widget?

I'm migrating a Dashboard over to ExB. I have an indicator that dynamically counts the number of species seen in a feature layer of plant observations.

In Dashboard, I'd add an Indicator widget with a Count statistic on the text attribute species, clicking the "Distinct" slider. This counts the distinct species in the feature layer.

I do not see a way to accomplish this in ExB. I've looked at the Dynamic functions, but they are numeric in nature.

Any ideas?

Did you ever figure this out? I have a similar need to count the distinct organizations and include them in an indicator.

Yah I also need this. Been fiddling around with the expression for so long but I can't get it to work. Shouldn't be so hard.

You can use the COUNT operator under the Statistics tab or Expressions tab in Dynamic content window.
COUNT({text_field})

I'm having the opposite problem. For me the Count() function seems to return distinct values on a text field, when I want it to return the total number features with that field populated. So I want what you got and you want what I got! I wonder why this is?
