spatial select of feature based on address

I'm trying to figure out the most user friendly workflow for a task that seems straightforward. My use case is:

I want the user to navigate to their address of interest in a map using the search bar (preferably the "search" widget, since I can place it somewhere visible).
Then, I want a feature selected (a polygon, 7k+ of them across the US) that the address falls within.
Then, I want the ExB associated charts, graphs, etc to filter based on that selected feature.

The closest solution I've come is this post. But, it's clunky in that the user has to click apply to select the fireshed and all the filter components might be confusing for the general public. I'd like the feature/polygon select to happen automatically. Is this possible? Thanks!
