Accordion Widget: Expand items on loading

Hello!

Just discovered the accordion widget -- it's my new favorite! I'm stumbling on selection one of the sections to be expanded on loading -- nothing is available in the drop down.

Wondered if perhaps someone else experienced this -- ? Is it me or is it a bug?

In a fresh new app with nothing else but the accordion, i get options so wondering if there's something about the overall page structure getting in the way...

Hi!

Accordions are most often used for hiding and showing sections of related content. It shows item by clicking the + sign aside item.You can also chose how many items will be expandet.

The trouble I'm having is that the drop down for the 'Expand Items on loading' is empty ... seems like I should reach out to Tech Support.

Hi Jessneuner!

The accordion widget is just a container for other widgets. It is empty until we put other widgets in it. In the example above it is shown empty, because there is no widget inside.

Thanks, @Faiez -- Yep.

Finally figured it out --- It seems to happen when i put the configuration into "Custom" -- like to alter the UI for mobile vs desktop -- then that drop down goes empty. I'll get a bug submitted.

@jessneuner Hi! I am having the same issue with the accordion when working with Custom Mobile view, where the dropdown does not populate. Were you able to get any response from your bug submission?

hi @beaniid -- no 😩 i still need to report to Esri. We worked around it with two different applications --- then embedded the mobile version into the desktop version --- so it's still one app for the end user ... i'll comment back here once i get it reported.

Yeah, I will get around it by splitting my accordion into 2 and putting a row in between for the item I want to be always visible, but it would look much better and be more useable if I could just set it to always visible in the accordion. Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback! We identified the same issue and have fixed it in the February 2025 release of ArcGIS Online. Please give it a try.

Hi does anyone have any example Experience Builder apps that use the Accordion widget that they can share? I'm interested to see what it looks like.

I am currently trying to move an accordion style Classic StoryMap over to a new application before support ends and would like to consider using Experience Builder. It looks like the functionality of the widget maybe be slightly different though. In Classic StoryMaps, the accordion on the left side of the application acts like a switch i.e. my application opens with the first accordion expanded on the left (some text and graphics about roads) and a map displays roads on the right. When I click on the second item in the accordion, new text and graphics about sidewalks is displayed and the map on the right changes to a sidewalks map.
