Hiding/filtering points by default without a UI element

Hello, a simple question. I wish to filter and hide points by default, and only have them appear on a map when a filter (button) is applied. Unfortunately the only way I have currently been able to replicate this is by having an OR filter applied by default using something like "OBJECTID = -1".

I would like points hidden by default until a filter is applied, without the unnecessary filter added at the end.

Any advice would be appreciated.
