Customize color of tools in Map Widget

It seems to be impossible to customize back- and foreground color of the 'tools' presented as buttons in the Map Widget (e.g. Home, Zoom).

There are just a few ready-made templates, and customizing a 'Theme Color' does not seem to affect the buttons.

For some of the tools in the Map Widget (e.g. Search, Basemap), there is a workaround to add them as individual Widgets instead. Then you get full freedom to customize their color, as well as shape, position etc.

An obvious suggestion would be to make all tools (integrated within the Map Widget) available as separate widgets.

A theme builder is on the roadmap where you will be able to customize the color of widget components.

Especially usefull when having a light primairy color; white on a light colour does not work.

This feature has been released on ArcGIS Online in October 2025.

Please follow the steps:

1. Click "Theme" on the left sidebar.
2. Upgrade to the new theme: select one of the new themes and then click "OK".
3. Click "Customize" at the bottom.
4. Under the "Color" tab, go to "Interactive element", then modify the color in the "Default" section.
