Enable ability to move map tools anywhere.

Currently in EXB, you have two choices of where you can place the map tools (zoom, home, locate, compass, etc.). Enable the ability to move each of the map tools independently of each other, add them to a widget container, or re-order them in any way.

Also, the measurement tool is seemingly shunned by the other tools as it appears opposite the location of the zoom/home/locate tools. Allow moving, stacking, or ordering the tools in whatever way we desire.

I would really like this functionality. There are certain map tools, e.g. measurement, that should really be included as widgets, but until that happens, we need more options to move them around. Wherever they get placed by the available options, they seem to conflict with widgets, which is frustrating. I don't want to have to move widget controllers to awkward places just because there aren't enough customization options for map tools for which ESRI hasn't yet created widgets.

Note: I know that Robert Scheitlin has created a custom measurement widget, but it's not compatible with the most recent versions of EXB developer edition.

Agreed, the layer list and basemap tools are moveable/configurable widgets, why not the other tools?

This needs to be an option! So many of my experience builder apps are limited by this and users complain about how screen space is effected.

Yep, it kind of crazy that you can't move the tools where you want them. It seems like this would have been figured out in Beta, come on ESRI!

In the latest update of AGOL, the measure tool and the my location tool looks to be its own widgets to add to a widget controller now. How long is it until they push features from AGOL EB to EB Developer?

@Brian_McLeer The new version of Developer Edition usually comes out about a month after the Online update, so expect 1.15 in August.

Yes - please make the placement of the map tools more configurable!

My specific issue is the compass tool placement. On a large or medium screen device, it appears under the other map tools:

However, on the mobile view it inexplicably sits on top of the search widget:

while the other tools have popped down to the bottom right:

The only workarounds are to move the search widget (which I don't want to do), or resize the search widget which works, but doesn't look great:

Please fix this ESRI!

It's wild that ESRI still doesn’t let you customize the toolbar. Feels like this should have been fixed ages ago. Any plans to address this, ESRI? Please fix this ESRI!

Just want to add my voice as well as this is an important function that should be ported over or at the very least the templates from WebAppBuilder ex. Foldable should look and have exact same icon placement when implemented in Exp. Builder. It is not the same template(s) hence why we are all asking for the ability to move these icon(s) for better placement. No need to reinvent the wheel you had the templates and the placement of these icons just made sense.

Thank you @SarahNoakes1 and @Jack_in_the_box and others. Let us keep asking and let ESRI know this is important function in making the transition to Exp. Builder

I too am adding my voice as to be able to move the "Home","Zoom" and "Extent" buttons would makt the Mobile layouts much more workable. Currently I cannot move them away from bottom of the map/screen, they get obscured when the Table, Pop up or other widgets (eg Layers) are pulled up from the bottom section.

Hi All,

This feature has been released on ArcGIS Online in February 2026 and will be available with ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1.

You can customize the map tool layout on large and medium screen devices. The mobile layout will be more complex; we’ll further investigate the solution.
