topic Unable to edit Feature Services in ArcGIS Enterprise Questions

Here's the setup:
We have some feature classes in a feature dataset on ArcSDE 10.1 for SQL Server 2012. The dataset is registered as versioned and uses High Precision storage. The owner has granted read/write/delete/update permissions to the username that runs the ArcSDE process. A map document was created which uses feature classes in this dataset, and the document was published as a map and feature service to our ArcGIS Server 10.1. The services are not secured, but we will in the future, so I won't publish the URL here. But as it is, we cannot edit the feature class through ArcGIS.com, ArcGIS Explorer on-line, or through the iPad app.

When I say "we cannot", what I mean is that the web application shows us the finished feature as if the edits have been done. But once we exit Edit mode, the changes are lost and features go back to the way they were.

Any suggestions, community?

It turns out that although ArcGIS Desktop reported the feature class as versioned, it wasn't. In ArcMap, when we tried to edit the layer, it gave us a large error box that none of the layers were registered as versioned. So, we REregistered the class as versioned, and then everything worked alright. It's perplexing why ArcGIS Desktop would report something that wasn't true, even though it could tell the false-ness about it when we went to edit. Curious.
