Setup as follows:</SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN>ArcGIS Server 10.1 SP1 and webadaptor installed.</SPAN><BR /><SPAN>Windows domain is used as the source for users and roles</SPAN><BR /><SPAN>Authentication set to web tier</SPAN><BR /><SPAN>Windows authentication enabled on webadaptor in IIS</SPAN><BR /><SPAN>Administrative functions are </SPAN><STRONG>not</STRONG><SPAN> forwarded through the webadaptor.</SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN>My windows user is a member of an AD group that has been assigned to the administrator role in ArcGISManager</SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN><SPAN>I am able to successfully make an admin connection to the server via </SPAN><A class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://</A><SPAN>&lt;servername&gt;:6080/arcgis from arcgis destkop. However if I try to publish a service, I get an error message stating:</SPAN></SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN>ERROR: unable to connect to publishing tools service. Verify the service is up and running.</SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN>However, the service is running and I am able to publish the service using the same credentials via arcgis manager and a .sd file.</SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN>I get the same results when using the default admin account for manager.</SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN><SPAN>Interestingly I noticed that I am not able to access the service directory at </SPAN><A class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://</A><SPAN>&lt;servername&gt;:6080/arcgis/rest either - is this a security 'feature' or just another symptom of an underlying problem somewhere?</SPAN></SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN>However, all services etc are correctly accessible via the webadaptor for the correct user accounts.</SPAN><BR /><BR /><SPAN><SPAN>If I enable administrative access via the webadaptor, everything works fine publishing to </SPAN><A class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://</A><SPAN>&lt;servername&gt;/arcgis, but I don't really want to do this.
