Server 10.1 SP1 Web Adaptor Error

After installing SP1 on both Server and Web Adaptor, I'm unable to register the Web Adaptor with Sever. I get the error:

Application Error

Unable to register the GIS server with the Web Adaptor. Please make sure that that the GIS server and WebAdaptor are of the same version.

Has anyone seen this issue?

I'm also getting an error when trying to register it, but it's a bit different (see attached image). I have an open ticket with ESRI, but no useful information yet.

The adaptor does appear in the adaptor list in the Manager webapp, but gives me a different (proxy-related) error whenever I try to access the REST directory with it.

I'm using Linux and deploying the adaptor to Tomcat. The web adaptor worked fine at 10.1 final, but can't even be registered properly at SP1.

Yes, I had this problem.

The problem is that after running the first setup for ArcGIS for Server 10.1, the shared key changed from what was registered before for my existing web adaptor.

So, to fix it, I used the ArcGIS Admin REST interface (http://yourserver/arcgis/admin) and logged in with my Primary Site Administrator account. I then clicked the security link under Resources, then the Tokens link under Resources so that I could see the new setting for sharedKey. I then copied it to a text file.

I then logged into ArcGIS Server Manager using my Primary Site Administrator account, and clicked on the Security button. I think clicked on the icon to edit token settings and changed the sharedKey value there to match the one copied into the text file. After that I could go back to the webadaptor config page and get the site to register.

Well I just took a look and my shared keys already match, so I guess that's not it. Hopefully your solution helps Dan though.

I've seen that if Server is SP1 but web adaptor isn't. One thing to try - remove & re-Install .NET Framework 3.5.1

For me, server and web adaptor are both SP1. I'm also running on Linux, so I don't have .NET installed.

I had this same issue and was able to resolve it by:

1. Uninstalling the web adapter
2. Repairing the ArcGIS Server installation
3. Installing ArcGIS Server SP1 again (seems redundant, but setup didn't complain)
4. Installing the web adapter

After doing the above steps I was able to register my server with the web adapter at the end of the web adapter installation.

i'm running into the same issue with the same error (except my install is with windows/IIS7)...i also tried the fix supplied at the end of the thread as well as spent about 2 hours on the phone with tech support...no luck. 'Upgrades' never go well.

FYI, I was able to solve my problem by upgrading Tomcat to version 7 (I was previously using 6).

Even though ESRI had been testing with Tomcat 6 and it was working on their end (and Tomcat 6 worked fine with 10.1 Final), it was causing unforeseen problems for me at SP1. It's possible Tomcat 6 was being run with an unsupported version of Java, but the exact cause is uncertain.
