ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5 hasn't yet been tested OK on Windows Server 2016. ArcGIS Server 10.5 system requirements

But we could keep the discussion open for anyone who has tried installing the same.

I've installed it on Windows Server 2016 and haven't seen any problem. To be honest, I was testing something very specific, unrelated to the OS. The safe thing to do is to wait until the software is verified on Windows Server 2016, but I don't expect there to be any major issues.

we are starting to realize a new infrastructure 10.5 on Windows Platform... Web Application, DB and GIS Server.

It would be a pity to start with 2012...

Nobody in ESRI Inc. can give me any advice?

Esri is targeting to certify Windows 2016 with the 10.5.1 release of ArcGIS Enterprise.

if you had to choose between 2012 and 2016 (not certified) today, what would you choose?

Would you risk with 2016 waiting for official certification?

Damiano Montrasio Is 2014 one of your choices? That is what we are going for. I figure 2014 will be supported for a long time, and there are a few things that weren't 100% 2016 compatible for our workflows. Just for another user perspective.

Sorry...was thinking SQL not OS, as Randall pointed out.

Do you have the ability to spin-up a 2016 server(s) and load the 10.5 software to create a development environment that you could use to test yourself if your business needs are currently met with this architectural setup without significant bugs? You could do this testing while your production environment stays as is. 10.5.1 should be out within 2 months according to ESRI so you could always upgrade your new 2016 servers at that point if you encounter significant bugs with 10.5.

Is there a Windows Server 2014? There's a SQL Server 2014, but I didn't think there was a Windows Server 2014 and maybe SBS 2014?

My apologies....I was thinking SQL. Wasn't reading it close enough.

...and to add, our IT spins up our machines these days, so I clearly don't know what Server OS's they are using these days.

for those only looking at the graphic above, I'll add what the * refers to:

*If you configure the ArcGIS Server site as the hosting server for an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment, enable SSL 3.0 in the Internet options to allow users to publish hosted scene layers. See Esri technical article 000016013 for more information.

This will be addressed in 10.6.

Note that the requirement is not to enable SSLv3 on Windows 2016 globally or for the Web Server role - rather the requirement is to enable SSLv3 for the ArcGIS Server account only, which governs how Windows uses SSL as a CLIENT. Client support for SSLv3 is disabled by default in Windows 2016.

SSLv3 is only required for communication between the ArcGIS Server and the ArcGIS Data Store and when publishing Hosted Scene Layers.
