Referenced Feature Services from a File Geodatabase.

I was under the impression that I could publish referenced feature services from a file geodatabase located in a folder on my organization's network. However, every time I try to publish I get 00134: Layer's data source is not supported. The folder has been added as a data store in our server, and we are on 11.5.

I have read a couple of posts that suggests this isn't possible, but those posts are prior to 11.5 being released. Does anyone know if this is possible to do outside of a eGDB, and if so how do we go about doing that?

Unfortunately, I don't believe it is possible as of 11.5.

This doesn't directly address FGDBs, but here is some 11.5 documentation regarding preparing data to publish a feature service. It lists relational databases, cloud data warehouses, and enterprise geodatabases. It does not mention file geodatabases.

Agree with @RyanUthoff - when publishing a Map Image layer when the source is file gdb and trying to enable Feature Access is not supported. If you want feature access from a file gdb you have to publish the layer as a hosted feature layer or the map as a hosted feature layer collection....

@Skysurfer publish the feature class(es) as a Map Service. After it's published, go into ArcGIS Server Manager > click on the service > Capabilities > check Features Access with only Query capabilities:

Thanks everyone for the responses — you’ve all confirmed what I was suspecting.
@JakeSkinner, would it be possible to enable editing for the features? To give more context, the goal is to publish referenced layers from a file geodatabase (FGDB) to our portal, and then create a collaboration with AGOL that allows two-way editing of the source data. While we have an eGDB, we'd like to reserve the use of it for larger and more secure datasets.

@Skysurfer no, you cannot enable editing. That would require the data to be stored in an Enterprise Geodatabase.
