Has anyone successfully installed ArcGIS Server 10.3 on Windows 2016?

I am trying to install ArcGIS server 10.3 on a Windows 2016 server. The server configuration utility would not run after the installation.

Esri has only certified Windows 2016 for ArcGIS versions 10.4.1 and 10.5/10.5.1.

Did you have a chance to view ArcGIS 10.3.1 for Server system requirements—Installation Guides (10.3 and 10.3.1) | ArcGIS for Server ? Always a good practice to check the prerequisites before proceeding with the installation.

Sometimes the products might work irrespective of it being certified by Esri, but if something goes wrong, the first guess would be the incompatibility issue regarding the system requirements.

Maybe you could downgrade the OS to Windows Server 2012 or upgrade your ArcGIS Server Install to 10.5.x (or install ArcGIS Server 10.3 in a different machine with a compatible configuration).

Correct me if I am wrong. I think Esri certified the compatibility of ArcGIS Server with Windows Server 2016 from ver. 10.5.x.

Certification for Windows Server 2016 for ArcGIS 10.4.1 is new - the certification was only finalized and announced by Product Management last week. We're working to update the doc.

Thank you for the update. I know people who have installed ArcGIS Server 10.3 in Windows Server 2016 successfully (I didn't try it myself though).

Hi Jayanta Poddar, Thanks for the reply. I am stuck at step 9. "After completing authorization, ArcGIS Server Manager should already be open. You can now log in to Manager and create a new site. For more information, see Creating a new site." The server Manager is not open. I am not able to bring that up. I installed most of the components. I am trying to install .net 3.5 yet. I will try that now and see what happens.

When you complete the software authorization, open a browser and navigate to https://localhost:6443/arcgis/manager.

Are you prompted to build your site? If not, do you get a message of some sort in the response?

Randall Williams , I think there is something else wrong here. I don't see arcgis application added to IIS. My c:\arcgisserver folder has one empty subfolder 'directories'.

I think c:\arcgisserver folder will get populated once the site is created. Can you open ArcGIS Server Manager manually by opening any of these URL on a web browser

http://localhost:6080/arcgis/manager

https://localhost:6443/arcgis/manager

or by navigating to Windows (Start Menu) > All Programs > ArcGIS > .... ArcGIS Server Manager (Manager)

Once you have successfully opened the Server Manager page, you should get the option of creating a new site.

OK, let's take a step back here.

Starting at 10.1, ArcGIS Server is a Java application that has web server components.

It does not install to IIS, so you wouldn't see an ArcGIS Application there in IIS quite yet.

There *is* a Web Adaptor component that can install to either IIS or to a J2EE server (sounds like you'll be using IIS).

When you install the web adaptor, you'll see that application installed into IIS.

Background: The web adaptor essentially acts as a proxy from your web server front end to the GIS Server back end - essentially, it proxies requests into https://yourwebserver.com:443 to the GIS Server at https://yourGISServer.com:6443 (or from https://yourwebserver.com to http://yourGISServer.com:6080).

At this point, it's expected to not see an application for ArcGIS in IIS. Instead, you're running the GIS Server on HTTP ports - outside of IIS - , which is expected.

Please copy and paste the following into a browser running locally on the machine that the GIS Server was installed on:

http://localhost:6080/arcgis/manager

By default, assuming everything installed correctly (which we're not sure about yet), you should see a page that asks you to create a new ArcGIS Server site.

Thanks Randall Williams , Jayanta Poddar , for the advice and I was able to bring the server manager up. It works better with Chrome as opposed to IE.

a. I've been successful installing 10.3.1 on Win2016 but...

b. Why? Do you have legacy dependencies? At a minimum, I'd go with 10.4.1 (prefer 10.7/10.7.1)

I ask because 10.3.1 is in Mature support, meaning no new patches are being released.

Sorry for the delay, but we have legacy software requiring us to be on 10.3 until we can get it upgraded.

As for the end of life support. It always somewhat confuses me because companies tend to either update their support or like Microsoft call it "Extended support".
