topic Exposing to fully qualified domain name (FQDN) in ArcGIS Enterprise Questions

Hello;

I'd appreciate some guidance with publishing mapping services. I have a server with ArcGIS Server 10.1, and have installed and configured a web adaptor. However, I have been told that I must "expose to a fully qualified domain name" in order for others to access the services outside our domain. I can't figure out how to do that, and can't find any documentation about it. I've read through the ArcGIS Web Adaptor help, and find that one benefit is to "expose your GIS server through your organization's standard website and port." But then it doesn't explain how to do that.

I found a discussion here - http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/89285-Exposing-Services-Externally, but that didn't answer the question.

Could someone point me toward some instructions about this?

- Jeri

Exposing your web adaptor to a FQDN is essentially configuring a reverse proxy, which gives you the ability to publish your GIS services to be accessible externally from the internet. The article below might be helpful to you, despite it being a bit older. It also contains other URL references that will be helpful if you're using Apache or IIS 7:

http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/32634

Thank you; I had actually found my way there previously, but wasn't quite able to follow it. Also, it hasn't been updated, and recent comments indicate that a user was unable to get it working for 10.1. Is there any updated documentation, or any chance there might be?

- Jeri
