If I understand the question, you are looking for some recommendations on how to manage updating services, systems and applications, is that correct? There are many different aspects of performing this type of work.

Thanks for the email response. The first place that I would look is out online documentation for this.

As we can see from the link above, there is a section that discusses "Manage Data"

Another valuable location in the link is the "Administer" tab:
