Hello all,

I put this as a comment on a document that I found on GeoNet but then thought I should have probably asked a new question...so here it is.

I have ArcGIS for Server so I created my first map cache following the steps here: http://server.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/publish-services/windows/creating-a-map-cache.htm

So now I want to create a Tile package to upload to ArcGIS Online like it mentions here: http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2013/02/06/workflows-for-building-and-hosting-cached-map-tiles-in-arcgis/

But when I open the "Export Tile Cache" tool the first thing it says is "Input Tile Cache" and asks for the location. Um? I guess it's on my server in the C:\arcgisserver\directories\arcgiscache folder? How do I path to that!?

Maybe I'll have to do it using ArcGIS Desktop instead since I can find a clear workflow for that. I can't find any info on how to use this Export Tile Cache tool that is helpful. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Cache-ing Newbie

When you publish your tiled map service make sure you enable export tiles and set the export limits appropriately. through the REST endpoint, use the export tiles supported operation: http://serviceURL/MapServer/exportTiles then you can define the extent, compression and levels you want in the exported tpk.

Russ

Hi Russell,

Thank you for your response. Your link doesn't work. So I tried to look up some info on the ArcGIS Rest API. I found my way to this screen

Do I click on Export Tiles (GET)?

Thanks!

Yup you can click GET. This will generate a link for you and you can track the packaging process and you will in the end get a download link to the final TPK.

Cheers

Russ
