I'm curious how many people out there have a clustered ArcGIS Server?...and if so, how many machines do you have clustered and do you use certain machines for specific tasks?

Thanks!

We are clustering right now.

1 environment (on our internal network) is ArcGIS Server 10.1 SP1. There are 3 clusters in the environment with 4 hosts. the 'default' cluster is empty (just has not been deleted since we could not delete it at 10.1 SP0... not sure if we can at 10.1 SP1 since I have not tried yet). The second cluster is built with 2 hosts called 'mapping' which we deploy our mapping services there. The 3rd cluster is called 'geoprocessing' and runs all the system utilities and geoprocessing services which some take a while to run. This cluster also has 2 hosts.

We are starting to build more services though, and will most likely build 2 more clusters and move 1 host from the current clusters into the new clusters to isolate services from eachother. The use on these services are low so we are really overkill right now with 2 hosts in each cluster.

We are also working towards another environment (currently at 10.0 SP4 and needs to be upgraded to 10.1 or 10.2 or 10.2.1) for a much larger project that has hundreds of services (we are getting close to 1000 services). Esri has 'unofficially' indicated that some clients have experienced issues when there are more than 300 services in a site. We are still going to deploy all our services in 1 site, but isolate those to 4 separate 'mapping' clusters, each with 1 host. If we experience problems, then we will break each of those clusters into multiple sites but would like to avoid that so that they are all accessible from 1 rest endpoint (url).

clear as mud?
