Howdy Folks,

I am posting about an obscure naming problem that will affect almost no one.

When creating a new site for ArcGIS Server 10.1 it would automatically name my machine SOMETHING.THING.ORG which is our domain that I set up through DYN.com instead of SERVER which is the machine's real name. Needless to say this was rather perplexing.

Solution (obtained after two days of investigation)
Back when my router was lame and didn't support loopbacks I edited the host file on the server to reference itself when using an eternal URL. When seting up a new site ArcInteresting would use the host file backwards to find the machine name.

All I had to do was delete the modifications to the host file and the problem was resolved.

I hope this helps at least one person but if not.... you're probably better looking then you think you are.

Ben
