Update Federated ArcGIS Server Admin URL

Hey All,

We have a federated server which, when it was initially federated, a single Web Adaptor URL was used as the admin URL for the server, e.g. https://wa1.domain.com/arcgis. We now have a Load Balancer in front of two Web Adaptors which balance between the ArcGIS Server machines within this site. Therefore, we would like to update the federated Admin URL to point to https://lb.domain.com/arcgis. We are no longer in the position to un-federate/re-federate due to usage of the production system.

Are we able to use the Portal sharing/rest directory to perform an 'update server' and change the Admin URL?

If so, are there any envisaged knock-on effects we should be aware of, or check for?

Note: we only want to change the Admin URL, not the ArcGIS Server URL.

Thanks in advance,

Jordan

Yes, you can update the admin URL of the federated server without a problem. I'd only suggest validating the server within the Portaladmin API once you've made the change.

Did this work for you? Where were you able to update the Admin Site URL within portaladmin?

Here's where I am: Portaladmin - Home > Federation > Servers > (selected server) > Update

When I click update, I'm not given the option to input a new admin URL for the federated server, only the option to designate the server role and server function.

Can you elaborate on how you solved this without unfederating?

Dalton, the Portaladmin page doesn't have the option. You can find the update option at https://yourportaldomain/arcgis/sharing/rest/portals/0123456789ABCDEF/servers, in which it should list all your federated arcgis servers. Click into the one you want to update, and find the Update option at the bottom of the page under the Supported Operations section. Hope it helps
