Printing with Dynamic workspace layers

I have a print service setup and working well on my AGS 10.0 machine. We are also running a 10.1 machine.
The print service is a gp task which brings in rest services as .lyr files and manages heirarchy and such. Within my web application I allow users to connect to dynamic services, pick a dataset to connect to and symbolize the data as they choose.

My issue is- how can I reproduce what they have on screen into my script for a pdf/ jpeg export? Arcpy cannot alter vector data symbol colors and it appears I cannot connect to a dynamic workspace service with the same parameters the web apis can in terms of telling it what dataset to bring in and how to symbolize it.

Any ideas?

Did you try ArcGIS Server Printing Service (new at 10.1)? Did it not work for you?

The printing service knows how to work with the dynamic layers with a map service.
