Registering as versioned with the option to move edits to base is useful if you require the benefits of versions but also need to share updates with applications other than ArcGIS"

Deciding how to register data
see here the details: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/003n/003n000000t0000000.htm

Thank you for the input Domenico.

As an example, for me, I??m using SQL server as database platform, do I EVER need to go for the ??move edits to base? option?

Going to this option (in my case) will be ??depraving? me from enjoying ??archiving? property, for instance. I expect to lose much more other functions. This is in parallel to NOT gaining any single benefit from choosing it (??move edits to base?).

am i correct?

Best

Jamal

There are no ??side effects? when using the versioning without ??mover edits to base? in terms of losing capabilities such as
a. Archiving
b. Working with complex data

2. There are ??side effects? when using versions with ??mover edits to base? such as
a. Losing the archiving function
b. Losing to working with complex data

3. My understanding that the only difference between version with ??move edits to base? / without ??move edits to base? is that the edits are reflected directly to the database! Then who cares!

4. What people will lose if they choose all the time the without ??move edits to base? option EVEN IN CASE:
a. THEY DON??T NEED TO HAVE ARCHIVING FUNCTIONS
b. THEY DON??T HAVE COMPLEX DATA

Based on what I read and the feedback, there is no need at all to have the ??move edits to base? option. We can all the time choose the option without ??move edits to base?.

Best

Jamal
