idea Include ArcGIS Enterprise Patches Needing to be Installed in About Section of Portal in ArcGIS Enterprise Ideas

Currently in ArcGIS Enterprise, the only way to see the patches currently installed (and/or needing to be installed) is to open the ArcGIS Enterprise patch utility directly on the servers itself. This complicates things as you have to RDP into each machine in your deployment, check the patch status, etc.

My idea is to centralize all of that information in the "About" section of Portal (Organization > Settings > About). The "About" page already includes information for all the machines in the Enterprise deployment such as Portal version, Server version, etc., so why not expand the information on that page to include the patches currently installed per machine? And not only that, but also include the ability to check for new patches from the "About" page as well.

I'm not necessarily saying we should have the ability to install patches from the "About" page, but just listing the patches currently installed as well as the patches needing to be installed would be a HUGE improvement over the current process we have now as we won't have to RDP into each machine to get the current patch status.

So to sum it up, my idea is to include the currently installed patches, as well as patches needing to be installed, on the "About" page in Portal for all machines in the ArcGIS Enterprise deployment.

Edit: It has come to my attention that installed patch information is available in the "About" section starting in ArcGIS Enterprise 12.0. However, it would still be nice to include patches that need to be installed in the "About" section as well. We still have to go to each machine to get that information and it would nice for that to be centralized in the "About" section.

I do see the Installed Patches per machine in my About section.... but yes it would be great if the About could include 'Available Patches' as well. I too have to periodically check using the patch notification tool on each machine in my deploy.

I'm just one version behind, so it looks like I barely missed out on that feature for now.

Regardless, seeing the Available Patches needing to be installed would also be a good feature to have, so I'll leave my idea up.

Yes @RyanUthoff please do. Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done about WebAdaptor on our web server, not sure what the solution is for that other than to keep checking the Patches and Updates site from time to time. But at least for our clustered ArcServer machines, I only have to check 1 to know that I would need to run a patch update on all 4 machines. Same for our 2 data stores . . .

@DavidColey That's a good point for the Web Adaptor. It would be nice for that to be included in the "About" section as well, although I'm not sure how feasible it is since all it does is integrate with an existing web server.

With that being said, I actually created an ArcGIS Idea 2.5 years ago to include Web Adaptor patches in the ArcGIS Enterprise patch utility. It's supposedly "in product plan", but after 2.5 years, it's either been forgotten about or pretty low on the priority list.

https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-ideas/include-web-adaptor-updates-in-arcgis-enterprise/idi-p/1313727

I would add that it would be nice to be able to enable a setting in Portal for ArcGIS to send an email to named users with the Administrator permission that a patch is available once it shows up on the "About" section.

If anyone on 12.x can share a screenshot of what that About > Patches page looks like I would be curious to know!

Sure, it looks like this:

Interestingly enough, this is showing an 11.1 (11.1 ?) patch as still being installed on my 12.0 deploy. Granted I've rolled many releases on this current machine, but the 11.1 patch does not show as installed from Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features>Installed Updates so that's pretty wild.

},
"patches": {"installed": [
{
"installDate": "3/3/2024",
"qfeId": "PFA-111-P-1012",
"productName": "Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Validation and Repair"
},
{
"installDate": "4/21/2026",
"qfeId": "PFA-120-P-1406",
"productName": "Portal for ArcGIS 12.0 Web App Embedded Element Patch"
},
{
"installDate": "4/21/2026",
"qfeId": "PFA-120-P-1417",
"productName": "Portal for ArcGIS 12.0 Security 2026 Update 1 Patch"
},
{
"installDate": "4/21/2026",
"qfeId": "PFA-120-P-1417B",
"productName": "Portal for ArcGIS 12.0 Security 2026 Update 1 Patch B"
}
]}
