Modification of the active vertex while continuing a sketch

When a user wants to continue a drawing (line or polygon), he can do so by clicking on the Continue Sketch button. When doing that, the next vertex he or she can add will always be after the last vertex of the original drawing. It seems impossible to change the active vertex of the sketch.

It would be great if the user could change the active vertex of a polygon, so he or she could continue a polygon sketch from any given vertex. And for a line, it would be great if the user could switch the direction of the sketch – so he or she could add points from both ends of the line.
